About the Workshop
This workshop will explore the archaeology and early history of religion in Japan in a comparative European context. Building on ongoing studies of important Japanese sacred locations, including the tentative World Heritage Site of Okinoshima, the World Heritage Site of Miyajima and other places in western Japan, along with comparative case studies from European prehistory and later, the workshop will bring together specialists in archaeology, geography, urban studies, the study of Japanese religion and ethnology.
